PTFE Sheet
This particular matieral is an incredible engineering plastic that is most famous for its very low friction and also its very wide operating temperatures. PTFE Sheet is an engineering plastic that is also known for its electrical resistance and also high radio frequency resistance.

PTFE Sheet Applications:
Due to its very low friction, PTFE as an engineering plastic is often used or chosen for wear pads, slide ways, bearing plates and antifriction guide strips. In comparison, PTFE Sheet performs much better than Nylon or Acetal with regards to reduced friction, although UHMWPE outperforms PTFE with regard to wear resistance.

It is also a very good engineering plastic suited to seals due to its ability to compression set. This will allow the PTFE Sheet to conform to a mating surface much better than many other engineering plastics and produce an improved seal.

PTFE is most famous for its use in non stick cookware, where a thin layer of PTFE is sprayed onto the surface to prevent food from sticking. It is also now used in high performance water repellent and highly breathable clothing. It also is extensively used on the base of irons and plumbing tape.

PTFE Sheet Properties:
This high performance engineering plastic is able to perform at minus 260°C and also plus 260°C, although the melting point of PTFE Sheet is in excess of plus 320°C. helping it become one of the engineering plastics with one of the highest and lowest operating temperatures giving it the rare ability to perform in high and low temperature applications.

PTFE Sheet has an incredibly low co-efficient of friction and is also actually described as being the lowest of all solid materials known to man and one that often amazingly means that insects and other creatures are unable to cling to. This ability is one of the reasons why PTFE Sheet is chosen for bearings and slide ways in preference to other engineering plastics.

PTFE Sheet also has excellent electrical resistance properties and is often chosen as a high quality electrical insulation material in performance to the lower performance engineering plastics previously specified.

PTFE Sheet also has a very good chemical resistance ability and is also claimed to be inert to almost all known chemicals, making it an ideal choice for protection from corrosive chemicals.

PTFE Sheet Sizes
The typical commercial availability of PTFE Sheet sizes are 1200mm X 1200mm and 1500mm X 1500mm although the thinner materials are available in extended lengths due to their production in roll form.

The typical commercial availability of PTFE Sheet thickness range from 0.25mm up to 50mm although a greater dimensional range is often available.

PTFE Sheet Details
This materials has a few features that may be important to remember, although it can be bonded with adhesives PTFE Sheet can require much more attention to detail and specialist adhesives which would be available from specialist adhesives suppliers. A special order product is available in an acid etched condition which will improve the bonding process to be much quicker. Another feature that may be important is that virgin grade PTFE is relatively soft which means that the clamping forces of any machine tools may need to be reduced to avoid surface damage. A further feature of PTFE Sheet is its thermal expansion rates which can be higher than some other materials and will have to be taken into account when designing components.

PTFE Sheet Low Temperature Performance
One of the key features of PTFE Sheet and one which is often overlooked is it's ability with very low operating temperatures. It will withstand incredibly low temperatures of around -260°C, this is one of the reasons why PTFE Sheet is chosen as a cryogenic vessel liner.

PTFE Sheet for Chemical Resistance
An important advantage of this particular engineering plastic is its chemical resistance which is probably better than most other plastics and much better than most other materials. There are few chemicals that will attach or cause any damage to the sheet under typical use and applications. This would allow PTFE Sheet to be used in applications as the lining of chemical tanks and any instances where chemical resistance is important.

PTFE Sheet and its Acid Resistance
PTFE is excellent at resistance to acids and can even withstand quite strong and aggressive acids at quite high temperatures which would increase thier chorosive effect. Because PTFE Sheet is very acid resistant it is often specified for acid tanks or where storage of acids.
